At the request, dated January 19, 2011, of USAID/Vietnam, the study by Lê & Lê was done after almost two months, answering two questions:

• What are the rights and liabilities of USAID and its contractor, under Vietnamese law, should it finance the importation of the generic equivalent of Aluvia, both before and after a decision by the Vietnamese patent office; and
• What are the options for purchase of (a) generic ritonavir/lopinavir combination or (b) brand-name Aluvia at a lower price.
